Iannis Pledel

The artist's approach

Currently based in Paris, Iannis Pledel produces canvases with oil paintings and works combining painting, photography and graphic design. His stylistic technique is based on superimpositions and compositions that break the boundaries between representation and abstraction and offer several levels of reading. He elaborates psychological scenes related to desire. The intrigues that he constructs give to see fragments, action sequences, a flow of consciousness or thoughts. Different narrations, temporalities and perspectives, flat or dimensional, are thus mixed.

Iannis Pledel’s work plays with past and contemporary representations, feeding on a wide range of references by Diego Vélasquez, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Francis Bacon, Henri Matisse, David Hockney, John Baldessari, Peter Beard or William Klein.
